Some people spent their summer holidays in Byron Bay, others in Adelaide. We spent ours in thought.

Deep thought. Like the chess computers, we sat very still, and quietly hummed. Like the chess computer, we strategised.

We know that fundraising with SmudgeBalm is easy – we spend all our time making sure that’s true. But is there a possibility, however small, that it could be made even easier?

Feedback from our wonderful customers told us that they would like an easier way to distribute the lipbalms out to their erstwhile fundraising assistants, and an easier way to collect the money that they raised.

And so we sat and thought. And finally, our brains throbbing, we found an answer.

With great pleasure we present our brand new display boxes. Please take a moment to admire them, as we did. Take several moments.

SmudgeBalm Fundraising display boxes are easier to use

And now, let us explain why fundraising just got that much easier.

SmudgeBalm Fundraising display boxes are easier to use

Each box now comes with five miniboxes, so that you can easily distribute your lipbalms out to anyone who is assisting in the fundraising

The miniboxes allows the assistants to collect the funds they raise thanks to it’s handy money slot

All they have to do once all the balms are sold is hand it back to you, the fundraising coordinator.

This will make it much easier for you to distribute you fundraising products and collect the funds raised, and also helps in keeping records of who has what – simply write down the name of the person to whom you handed the minibox, and you know that you will be getting $20 back from that person once they have sold all the balms.

We hope this is going to make fundraising coordinators everywhere cheer – so please let us know what you think!

There are many things which perplex us here at SmudgeBalm, such as whether milk comes out of a cow’s nose when they laugh.

And here are some of the things which you had questions about recently – if you don’t find your questions here, please contact us.

How does it work?
We sell lipbalms in boxes of 50 balms, for $100 a box (this works out to $2 per balm).
You can then sell these for $4 to fundraise, which means that each box you sell will raise $100 for your cause.

Where are your products made?
Our made products are made by one of Australia’s most excellent cosmetic manufacturers in Melbourne, Victoria. Additionally, SmudgeBalm Fundraising is proudly 100% Australia owned.

Are your products tested on animals?
Absolutely not.

Where do you ship to?
We will ship anywhere at all in Australia.

When do we pay?
We accept credit cards, cheques, and bank transfers, and we need to receive payment before we can ship your order.

How long will my order take to be delivered?
As soon as we receive payment, we get to work on shipping your order, and this generally takes less than a week – however, depending on your location and the timing of when we receive payment, it can occasionally take up to two weeks. If you need your order urgently, please let us know through the contact form.

Can we pay by a method other than credit card?
Yes – we accept cheques and bank transfers. To pay this way, please submit an order through the contact form.

Please note, your order will not be processed until we receive payment, so please factor this in if paying by cheque.

Do you offer refunds for unsold product?
If your fundraising hasn’t gone as expected, you are welcome to return whole, unopened boxes to us. We are able to offer a refund of the purchase price of the box.

Can only schools fundraise with SmudgeBalm?
EVERYONE can use SmudgeBalm to fundraise – we have helped rowers, netballers, hikers, trekkers, schools with formals, schools with sports carnivals, soccer players, rugby players, dancers, school exchanges, charities, musicians, and so many more.

All Halllows Rowing Team needed some fundraising products delivered rapidly for their upcoming school rowing regatta, and SmudgeBalm Fundraising were more than happy to leap into action. Said Louise, “it was favourably received by everyone”.

All Hallows were also innovative enough to put in place incentives for their girls to distribute the products, even offering Black Eyed Peas concert tickets in a raffle to girls who had sold above a certain amount of balms. “The girls were very excited about selling the lipbalm especially with the incentive”.

Louise finished by offering the feedback that “I would recommend it to others especially at the beginning of winter and take them to sporting events to sell”.

Yes, that’s right – we’ve managed to tear ourselves away from the cauldron and seek the sunshine and the bitumen in preparation for this year’s The Sun Herald City2Surf! And, for a pleasant change from helping everyone else with fundraising, we’re doing some fundraising of our own!

The team has emptied their couches, scoured their old jeans, and (politely) accosted strangers in the street to kick things off with a $100 donation to Camp Quality. You can make your own contribution, or send us a message of support (believe me, we will need support going up past Kambala High School on Heartbreak Hill) at our Everyday Heroes fundraising page.

And if you’re running, keep your eyes out for the giant lipbalms!

We were reminiscing about the good old days of high school recently, which is becoming more and more frequent the scarier we find this modern age of financial crises and new and improved influenzas.

Ahhh, for simpler times. A time when work meant high school, and high school meant homework, and homework meant calculus. By hand…

Ok – maybe not so much the good old days – but one fond memory of high school one of our team had was participating in the World Vision 40 Hour Famine.

Nicholas told us he loved doing the 40 Hour Famine at high school – firstly because it’s a great cause, and secondly because of the promise of ending the famine with a trip to McDonald’s. Which only made him realise how important World Vision’s work was – he was lucky enough to be able to pop into the local Maccas. Millions aren’t.

Many of us shared Nicholas’ feelings, and with this year’s 40 Hour Famine happening over the 21-23rd of August, we’d like to show our support for anyone participating with a special offer.

For each box of SmudgeBalm Fundraising Lip Balms you order to fundraise for the 40 Hour Famine (which will allow you to raise $100) we’ll throw in an extra 5 bonus lip balms on top of what you would normally get – which means each box could earn you more than $120!

Head on over to our Order Page to order now.

Just make sure you aren’t tempted to eat the lip balms during your participation in the 40 Hour Famine – no matter how delicious they smell!

Well, this isn’t the first time we’ve been told to shut-up, but it hasn’t ever been for a such a good reason (or so we claim).

The Hush for Homelessness was launched recently, and it is billed as being the biggest fundraiser for tackling homelessness in Australia.

Participants are asked to literally shut-up for an hour, on Friday the 15th May. This is to represent the situation many people find themselves in – of being voiceless and marginalised.

We’re not sure this is something we could do ourselves, considering that the phone is almost attached to our ear now – but we’re definitely happy to help out anyone is planning on fundraising for the Hush for Homelessness program.

If you’re fundraising for this event, please get in touch with us through our contact form and we will see what we can do to assist.

The Sydney Morning Herald has featured an article which reveals some hidden secrets of a very modern affliction - and it's great news for fundraisers!

These are the people you sit next to on the bus.

These are people you may know, may even be friends with – this affliction knows no boundaries.

It may be shocking to civilised society; it may perplex and disturb you. But all our fundraisers need to know is – this is great news!

In one of many pieces we will be profiling on the topic of Lipbalm Addiction – the Sydney Morning Herald has featured an article which reveals some of the hidden secrets of this very modern affliction.

From feelings of fear and loss if they happen to leave the house without a lipbalm, to online forums devoted to all shades of lipbalms brands, to self-help websites for those trying to ‘kick the habit’ – this problem appears entrenched, and spread far and wide.

The article also features tips on how to overcome lipbalm addiction – which aren’t really worth mentioning. As far as our fundraisers and SmudgeBalm are concerned, there’s really no need to try and get past lipbalm addiction.

What’s so wrong with wanting to look after your lips? More power to you all, we say.

So whilst this affliction is clearly not as serious as the name implies, all our fundraisers need to know is that their lipbalms are seriously wanted commodities – in this world where one lipbalm is not enough, your funds raised will definitely be going up!

We’re very very very pleased to announce that SmudgeBalm.com.au is officially launched – and isn’t it a beauty!

“It isn’t the first thing that comes to mind, for sure” says John, from a NSW Rugby Club. “But we thought about it and realised, every guy here has a mum, most of them have sisters, some of them have daughters…some guys are still working on the girlfriend thing. So we got a few boxes to experiment – one guy left them in his office, and they were all sold by the end of the week. Coming into winter especially they seem really popular. We just leave a box in the canteen, and all the supporters just go through them”.

Positive though he was about Smudgebalm, John wouldn’t be drawn on whether or not he uses them himself. ”This is going on the website, right?”, he laughs.

Bucks and Balms

The Buck Hunters, a mixed netball team playing in the Sydney Region, wanted a quick and easy fundraiser so they could all attend the end-of-season awards night. Naturally, they turned to SmudgeBalm, as Anna explains.

“Well, our guys are used to having their mates rib them about playing netball, so we thought it wouldn’t make much difference if we had them selling lipbalms as well. Most of us do office work, so we all grabbed a box and left them in our kitchens, and collected the money each afternoon”.

And how successful was the fundraising?

“All of our balms were sold within two weeks, so it was a very quick turnaround – after that, we banked the money and we were on our way!”

So was the fundraising worth it?

“Absolutely – we even managed to get our guys into netball skirts for a team picture!”

Getting to the formal on budget

We helped a large girls high school with their Year 12 formal recently, and although they wished to remain unnamed, they did offer us the following comments.

“We chose SmudgeBalm because the return was very high, and we also expected to be able to sell the lipbalms quite readily, given we are a large girls school, and that in winter the demand for lipbalms really picks up.

We didn’t realise how popular they would be, however – we are pleased to say that we had to reorder”.
